Behold the new raging bull. Like each of its virile predecessors, the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is an irreverent beast. Witness its mosaic of exacting creases and menacing pleats coupled with stiletto eroticism. The flagship Aventador is nothing if not a concerto of bleeding-edge forms and taut muscularity that breathlessly bellows “need for speed.”

Drink its audacity. Sip its sinister radiance. Savor its mesmeric delicious- ness. The monopipe growl unleashed from its brutish 700 horses of defiance will animate the fuzz on the back of any neck.

Spurred by a 6.5-liter V12 power engine, the all-wheel drive Aventador thrusts to 60 mph from a standing start in just under 3 seconds. Its backwards-mounted engine—a design carryover from the legendary Lamborghini Countach—propels the Aventador to a top speed of 217 miles per hour. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a single clutch, seven-speed paddle-shifted automated manual transmission; a robotized gearbox dubbed ISR (Independent Shifting Rod). The design dramatically reduces mechanical distances, making for lightning fast shift times. Lamborghini will not offer a manual transmission on the Aventador.

The Aventador also features a pushrod spring and damper suspension system, coupled with an aluminum double wishbone, inspired by Formula One racing. This unique design combines razor-sharp road feel with a livable, mannered ride.

Yet the Aventador’s most striking feature is its body structure. A carbon-fiber monocoque encircles occupants in a molded structural tub, combining lightness with unprecedented stiffness. Assembled from carbon-fiber panels, boxes, and tubes with foam and aluminum re- inforcements, the Aventador weighs in at just 3,472 pounds. That’s nearly 200 pounds lighter, and seven inches longer, than its Lamborghini flagship predecessor, the Murcièlago.

The Lamborghini nameplate has always represented a fascination with the world of bullfighting. And the Aventador is no exception. The fighting Aventador earned fame in 1993 at Spain’s Saragossa Arena. Following a spirited, brutal confrontation with a torero, the animal earned the “Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera” for courage. The Lamborghini Aventador boldly goes up against a new breed of super sports cars with its rakish brand of panache. And at $380,000, that panache doesn’t come penny-pinched.
